Sosua

Sosúa is located 25 kilometers east of Puerto Plata and 5 km east of the airport. 


















 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay beach - flanked by limestone cliffs - and two different districts that are located on a plateau  to the right and left Golden Bay with crystal clear blue water .

 

The locals love this beach and part of its charm is the many small beach bars that are avaliable.  

 

This wonderful beach is the ideal starting point for diving and snorkeling.

 

TIP:  From April to September you will find this beach crowded with locals on Sunday. SO don’t go to the beach unless you want some adventure and a loud crowd. 

 

“El Batey”is perfect for tourists because  it has many small bars and restaurants, while "Charamicos" has retained the charm of a village creol. .

 

This coastal city was the most important tourist center on the northern coast years ago


Today, this is a MUST stop for any visitor to the region. 

 

Immigrants, mainly from North America and Europe have retreated here, and thereby they have given the city a cosmopolitan flair.

Dozens of bars, restaurants and shops have mainly tourists, attracted by the 1-km-long beach, located in a bay.

 

In Sosua  there is  little reminiscent of the time when persecuted Jews built the first houses here. 

 

 

The Synagoge of Sosúa reminiscent of the origin of this city, which was established by Jews, on the run by the Nazi Germany at the time.

Jewish Museum

 

This museum was established  to commemorate 700  Jews that fled before the Hitler regime and where taken in by the dictator Trujillo in 1938 during the Nazi regime in Germany.
 
Th exhibition shows photos and interesting objects that belonged to the immigrants, as well as showcasing their milk and dairy wares they built up in the city.

 

Shopping

 

There are souvenir shops in the hotels and on almost every street corner in the city. The beach provides the best shopping and offers an amazing variety of wares to choose from.

 

Special shops for cigars and rum can be found in the town center along with boutiques, photo shops, and internet cafes.

 

Sosua has what ever you want when indulging in a shopping spree. 

 

Nightlife in Sosúa


In Sosua's nightlife begins just before midnight - especially in the street Pedro Clisante - when people are done with dinner and have time to think about music and dance.

 

In particular, the Merengue, one of the world's most contagious rhythms.


The local bars and nightclubs are frequented by tourists and locals alike. 

 

In Sosúa, the "After One Night Club" in "Sosúa Bay" casino is popular among tourists for its blend of Latin American and Caribbean rhythms, as well as the recent trend in international music.

 

TIP: Be careful when walking on the streets at night since there are many people out, especially women. You may need to be firm in your refusal if one approaches you. 

 

If you want to enjoy the nightlife of Cabarete, this is not a problem. 

The Carritos drive all night, for only 45 pesos. 

Go to the headquarters of the Carritos and off  you go to Cabarete.
