PUERTO PLATA

 

International Airport Gregorio Luperón

The Puerto Plata’s airport (span. Aeropuerto Internacional Gregorio Luperon) is an international airport in the Dominican Republic.

 

With about one million passengers annually it is the third biggest airport in the country and has a great importance for tourism.

 

The International Airport Gregorio Luperon is located between Puerto Plata and Sosua on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The airport is located 18 km east of Puerto Plata in the north of the country and only has one road connection.

 

The Gregorio Luperon Airport is the nearest airport to the tourist destinations of Puerto Plata (25 min.), Sosua (15 min.) Cabarete (25 min.) and Luperon (90 min.)

 

Santo Domingo (4.5 hours), Bayahibe (6 hours), Punta Cana (7 hours)

 

This airport is used for regional connections within the Caribbean and North and South American mainly by charter airlines.

 

Air Berlin, Condor and Edelweiss Air connect Puerto Plata regularly with Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich. The time of flight from Germany is about 10 hours.

 

Public transport – the road:

 

Bus: Buses and minibuses run regularly between the Gregorio Luperon International Airport and the city of Puerto Plata.

 

Taxi: Taxis are available outside the terminal building to any desired destination on the island.

 

Terminal facilities:

 

Money: In the terminal you will find a bank, a currency exchange office and a cash point.

 

Communication: A post office is located in the terminal building.

 

Food: At the Gregorio Luperon International Airport there are fast food stores, bars and restaurants.

 

Shopping: The shops at the airport include a souvenir shop, a newspaper shop, where you can buy magazines, books, newspapers, as well as a duty free shop for tobacco, alcohol, perfume, cosmetics, toiletries, accessories, electronic products, jewelry, toys and much more.

 

Luggage: Trolleys are available free of charge. The Airport Authority on the second floor also acts as a lost property office.

 

Other: At the Gregorio Luperon International Airport is established a first aid station for minor emergencies.

 

Facilities for disabled people:

The airport is relatively well adjusted to the needs of travelers with disabilities. Appropriate help is available if required. In addition, wheelchairs and wheelchair-accessible toilets are available in the terminal building. In the parking lot there are four places reserved for disabled that are closest to the terminal building.

 

Parking:At the Gregorio Luperon International Airport are parking available for short and long term parking. Designated disabled parking spaces are also available.

The Airport  Cibao (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional del Cibao) is considered the third biggest of now six international airports in the Dominican Republic. This is located  at  Uveral, near Santiago de Caballeros and Licey. Airplanes up to the size of Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 can start and land in the Cibao .

 

It is located about 10 kilometers east of Santiago. Directly on the highway  Autopista Duarte.

The Aeropuerto Internacional of El Catey "Samana", "Aeropuerto Profesor Juan Bosch" (Aeropuerto El Catey, occasionally also Aeropuerto Samaná) is an international airport, located in the north-east of the Dominican Republic, 22 km south-east of Nagua, Province María Trinidad Sánchez, 14 km north-west of Sánchez, Samaná province and 8 km east of the highway to Santo Domingo (Autopista Papa Juan Pablo II).

 

The airport id operating since the first of November 2006. In El Catey aircraft can start and land airplanes to a size of the Boeing 747. The airport has 45,000 m² of floor space, provides space for up to four Boeing 747. The passenger hall of 9,000 m² and an additional area on the first floor of 1,000 m² and 28 check-in counters, two baggage conveyors and two passenger terminals allow a clearance of up to 600 passengers per hour at peak times.

SANTO DOMINGO

The airport Internacional de Las Américas „Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez“ (short:  Aeropuerto Las Américas) is an international airport which is located in Punta Caucedo, near by Santo Domingo and Boca Chica in the Dominican Republic.

 

The airport was the biggest in the Dominican Republic and also one of the biggest in the Caribbean but now it has been overtaken in passengers from  the privately operated airport Punta Cana.

 

The Airport Las Americas Airport is located in Punta Caucedo approximately 20 minutes from Santo. It is the most important airport of the Dominican Republic and also the biggest in terms of passenger traffic.

 

Ten passenger bridges simplify boarding and disembarking of the passengers.

There is an average of 140 aircraft movements a day who come mainly from Europe; South, Central and North America and the Caribbean.

La Romana International (Spanish Aeropuerto Internacional de La Romana) is the airport, which is located nearby the city La Romana in the east of the Dominican Republic. It is located about 8 km northeast of the city center.

Since 1998 under planning, the airport was taken after only two years of construction in 2000 in operation.

 

From Frankfurt, Condor runs in the winter season every Saturday, in addition to the days when cruise ships AIDA depart from the local port.

 

Air Berlin flies the whole year from Munich and Dusseldorf, Thomson Airways from some English big cities and JetBlue Airways operates direct flights to New York JFK.

The Aeropuerto Internacional de Punta Cana is an international commercial airport in Punta Cana in the east of the Dominican Republic.

With more than 3 million passengers in 2006 it is the biggest and most important airport in the country and one of the most important in the Caribbean region.

The airport is built in a traditional and typical Dominican style with palm roofs made ​​of real Dominican palms.

The airport has three terminals. Terminal 1 and 2 serve the handling of international arrivals and departures, Terminal 3 is used exclusively for regional flights.

Several scheduled flights, but mainly charter flights fly to the airport. Air Berlin and Condor fly seasonal flight schedule at regular intervals to Punta Cana.
