General information about the entry to the Dominican Republic with your pet:
The trips are fascinating! For me there is nothing better in life than to enter into a plane and arrive at a new destination to discover new places, different cultures ...
But we who keep animals that are part of our family, sometimes do not find a place where we can accommodate them when we go on vacation or we want them to join us. Traveling to the most Western countries (United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Central America, South America) are simply in terms of the papers.
The animals must have their current vaccinations that may not be older than three months and be free of worms.
Apply to your veterinarian for a health certificate and that is enough in most cases. Some airlines require confirmation from the veterinarian that the animal can travel at certain temperatures and altitudes.
Some of these countries need additional confirmation that your pet is free of external parasites, ticks, fleas, lice, etc.
This is also an important act of prevention.
It is always good to check the requirements and conditions of the airlines.
With all these documents you present yourself at the airport in the Department of Animal Health and there they will give you, after a quick check of your pet, another certificate. With all these papers, go to the check-in, register your pet to and you're going on your trip ...

Formalities to travel with your pet, from theDominican Republic to
other countries:
To be able to take your pet with you, you will have to do some additional and costly steps. This should be done at least three months before departure.
You must have vaccinated your pet in the last six months preferably take him to your veterinarian.
You must take a blood sample, and this should be sent to the United States to a laboratory, there are only a few which are recognized. From there you get when the values are correct, the confirmation that your animal has antibodies to rabies.
This result can sometimes take one month!!!!
They are sent by fax or mail your ti your veterinarian.
If the values of the blood sample agree, then your pet can travel with all the other mentioned documents.
Otherwise you should vaccinate your pet against rabies once more, wait for about 15 days, and then try again. This test is expensive.
You should always ask at several places, especially in veterinary clinics
(Dr. Bob / Dr. De La Cruz), since not all know the procedure and the worst thing that can happen is that due to lack of documents, the pet can’t travel and is under quarantine and / or you miss your flight.
Always consult people you trust.
