Las Galeras

Las Galeras is a small fishing village at the end of the road from Samana.

It is an excellent destination for snorkelers.

It is also the preferred location for boating to the beach Playa Rincon.

Playa Cala Blanca is a beach with shallow waters due to its favorable natural conditions.

Playa Rincón

is rated by many as one of the three most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean; it consists of three miles of white sand beaches with tall coconut plantations, where still no hotel infrastructures has been developed

Along the main beach there are small coves, surrounded by abundant, tropical vegetation, where you can swim undisturbed.

You can only get there by jeep or even better by boat. Enjoy this beautiful, lonely and still unspoiled  piece of paradise.

Most is this beach reached by boat:

30 minutes (RD $ 800 per person, RD $ 2.400 for the boat) from Playa Grande to
Las Galeras or on the road about 7 km, 20 minutes from Las Galeras.

The taxi boats will take you to the western part of the beach, with its gentle waters near Caño Frio, the freshwater source.

There you can also make excursions with horses along the beach and enjoy the breathtaking views.

TIPS: If you are looking for peace and relaxation you should visit. Everywhere there is   fresh tasty fish, with a refreshing coconut water to eat.

If you come by car, you should buy gas with Bezin in Las Terrenas or in Samana, since in Las Galeras there aren’t any gas stations.

The name of Las Galeras comes from the second half of the sixteenth century, when two galleys were sent by the King of Spain to reduce smuggling and to fight against the French privateers.

Most small hotels are managed by Europeans, mainly Swiss, German and French. They came to the island and stayed.

TIP: A German family built the inn "El Cabito" with a restaurant in Cabo Cabron. It is a popular vantage point for whale watching and sunsets.
A romantic place, a dinner at starry night.

The daring jump into the cold waters of 13 meters, a feat.
That you should only do if the water is calm.

You climb back up on a rope ladder.

In Las Galeras you can make long walks through the tropical jungle and along the coast.

TIP: For best results take a local guide with you, or rent a boat with captain and guide (RD $ 1.600 p / 3 Beaches / min 4 persons) and explore more beaches.

For diving and sport fishing is Las Galeras is the best place.

Playa Grande de Las Galeras is located in the same village and is the starting point for the fishing boats, where you can buy fresh fish when they come back.

TIP: You can also rent taxi boats.
